Bad with Money Download

ISBN: B07FYP5LTB
Title: Bad with Money Pdf The Imperfect Art of Getting Your Financial Sh

The beloved writer-comedian expands on her popular podcast with an engaging and empowering financial literacy audiobook for Millennials and Gen Z.

In the first episode of her Bad with Money podcast, Gaby Dunn asked patrons at a coffee shop two questions: First, what's your favorite sex position? Everyone was game to answer, even the barista. Then, she asked how much money was in their bank accounts. People were aghast. "That's a very personal question," they insisted. And therein lies the problem.

Dunn argues that our inability to speak honestly about money is our number-one barrier to understanding it, leading us to feel alone, ashamed, and anxious, which in turns makes us feel even more overwhelmed by it. In Bad with Money, she reveals the legitimate, systemic reasons behind our feeling of helplessness when it comes to personal finance, demystifying the many signposts on the road to getting our financial shit together, like how to choose an insurance plan or buy a car, sign up for a credit card or take out student loans. She speaks directly to her audience, offering advice on how to make that #freelancelyfe work for you, navigate money while you date, and budget without becoming a Nobel-winning economist overnight.

Even a topic as notoriously dry as money becomes hilarious and engaging in the hands of Dunn, who weaves her own stories with the perspectives of various comedians, artists, students, and more, arguing that - even without selling our bodies to science or suffering the indignity of snobby thrift-shop buyers - we can all start taking control of our financial futures.

A decent memoir with advice for young adults Gives good tips and explanations for young adults who are starting out as well as interesting life stories. I'd recommend borrowing it from the library and only purchasing if you really love it.Great GreatSo insightful and thought provoking and honest. So glad to have this perspective on finances from someone not in the top tax bracket. also very well researched. Thank you Gabby Dunn!

The Case Against the Democratic House Impeaching Trump Download

ISBN: 1510747702
Title: The Case Against the Democratic House Impeaching Trump Pdf
Author: Alan Dershowitz
Published Date: 2019-01-01
Page: 264

In the 2018 New York Times bestseller The Case Against Impeaching Trump, Alan Dershowitz lamented how American political discourse has devolved into hypocrisy and the criminalization of political differences in the rush to impeach President Donald Trump. Arguments to impeach Trump failed Dershowitz's "shoe on the other foot test," or his political golden rule: Democrats must do unto Republicans what they would have Republicans do unto them, and vice versa.Since then, we've only become more divided-and the impeachment power wielded by the new Democratic majority in the House of Representative threatens to further polarize the country. The Case Against the Democratic House Impeaching Trump builds on Dershowitz's argument, explaining how Kavanaugh proceedings, the nature of our media and public discourse, the reception of the author's first book, the Mueller investigation and T. S. Ellis's responses to it, and other recent political events show that American democracy is suffering for its political hypocrisy, and we must change our political discourse. And two years of impeachment proceedings started by the House-and the media and public uproar that would surround them-are not the answer. Alan Dershowitz is one of the most famous and celebrated lawyers in America. He was the youngest full professor in Harvard Law School history, where he is now the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law, Emeritus. The author of numerous bestselling books, from Chutzpah to The Case Against Impeaching Trumpto The Best Defense to Reversal of Fortune (which was made into an Academy Award-winning film) and to The Case for Israel, Dershowitz has advised and defended many of the most famous legal cases of the past fifty years, including O.J. Simpson, Anatoly Sharansky, Michael Milken, Claus von Bulow, and Mike Tyson.

One of America’s most celebrated lawyers and a Democrat explains why impeachment proceedings would be a bad idea for America―and only intensify the larger problem with our democracy.

In the 2018 New York Times bestseller The Case Against Impeaching Trump, Alan Dershowitz lamented how American political discourse has devolved into hypocrisy and the criminalization of political differences in the rush to impeach President Donald Trump. Arguments to impeach Trump failed Dershowitz’s “shoe on the other foot test,” or his political golden rule: Democrats must do unto Republicans what they would have Republicans do unto them, and vice versa.

Since then, we’ve only become more divided―and the impeachment power wielded by the new Democratic majority in the House of Representative threatens to further polarize the country.

The Case Against the Democratic House Impeaching Trump includes and expands upon Dershowitz’s 2018 book. It puts recent political events―including the hyper-partisan Kavanaugh hearings, the unrestrained power of the Mueller investigation, and the generally intolerant current political discourse―into context. American democracy, Dershowitz argues, is suffering from political hypocrisy. And two years of impeachment proceedings brought by the House―and the media circus that would undoubtedly surround them―is clearly not the answer. This book is Alan Dershowitz’s plea for honest dialogue―for arguments that would be made even if the shoe was on the other foot.

Before all the facts are in...? It's sad that Prof. Dershowitz has gone to such great lengths to make a defense against potential impeachment proceedings being instituted against President Trump both BEFORE all the facts have been uncovered and the Special Counsel has completed the report on his investigations AND when, nearly daily, facts ARE uncovered that are making a pretty clear case that the President MUST be impeached because of the clear and growing patterns of crimes/misdemeanors and just maybe even Treason those facts increasingly point to. I can understand and appreciate a book at this time on how we should interpret impeachment of a president according to the Constitution, history, and vis-a-vis other interpretations, and moreover on how critical it is that such proceedings should only be instituted when certain standards have been met and the dangers to the Republic when not enough care is taken if and when such a process has begun. But it really makes you wonder just what Professor Dershowitz is actually trying to accomplish when he comes right out with "The Case Against the Democratic House Impeaching Trump" before general, necessary, and long-overdue congressional oversight hearings have begun, administration and campaign and Trump organization officials have been invited or subpoena'd to give testimony, and, as I said and every day exemplifies, there is a growing continent of evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump has acted and directed others to commit crimes etc. Finally, I cannot but see it as erroneous that a President can only be impeached and removed from office for commission of crimes during their term in office, as Prof. Dershowitz suggests in his book. I am not expert on all standards of impeachment for other government officials, but applying a time limit on top of normal statutory limitations seems clearly ridiculous and very unlikely to have been the intent of the Founders. Surely, Prof. Dershowitz, you're not saying that, let's say if the Speaker of the House, President Pro Tempore of the Senate, or a cabinet official instituted a secret coup against the President and Vice President, thereby becoming President or Vice President in the line of succession, which was later uncovered during their term, but while they did not commit any crimes while serving as President/Vice President, that they wouldn't be liable for impeachment by the House and conviction and removal by the Senate?Dershowitz tells it like it is, intelligently and principled, without political bias. I most liked and appreciated the discussion of the most important questions of the current Trump era presidency that is done intelligently and free of the hypocrisy and hyperpartisanship that rules the media and so many of the self-proclaimed pundits who discuss the issues that are so concerning to all of us. Professor Dershowitz has shown the danger inherent in the justification of the breaking and even bending of Constitutional and legal principles to facilitate attacks on President Trump. I found the spread of that kind of thinking into academia especially dangerous. It is a tour that explains, teaches and provokes thinking about many important things and should be required reading for all the members of Congress and all citizens anxious to preserve our democracy.I wondered what happened to the ACLU. Prof. Dershowitz explained it. In a discussion of the danger of breaking the rules to accomplish an assumed justifying end, he discussed the unholy alliance between The FBI and mob boss Whitey Bulger. I come from Boston and thought I knew all about that arrangement. I didn’t and that example provoked a new understanding. There are many other subjects like “flipping minor criminals” to get bigger ones that will provide a better understanding of the process and the dangers inherent in doing it. All in all, whether you like Trump and what he’s doing or despise him and everything about him, you should read this discussion of what’s going on to better understand the dangers that will follow from a failure to properly follow the law.Garbage self aggrandizing lying by a manipulative old man! If I could have given this piece of garbage a negative star I would have! Dershowitz is trying so hard to justify the unjustifiable that it seems grotesque beyond belief!

A Pattern Language Pdf

ISBN: 0195019199
Title: A Pattern Language Pdf Towns, Buildings, Construction (Center for Environmental Structure Series)
Author: Christopher Alexander
Published Date: 1977
Page: 1171

The second of three books published by the Center for Environmental Structure to provide a "working alternative to our present ideas about architecture, building, and planning," A Pattern Language offers a practical language for building and planning based on natural considerations. The reader is given an overview of some 250 patterns that are the units of this language, each consisting of a design problem, discussion, illustration, and solution. By understanding recurrent design problems in our environment, readers can identify extant patterns in their own design projects and use these patterns to create a language of their own. Extraordinarily thorough, coherent, and accessible, this book has become a bible for homebuilders, contractors, and developers who care about creating healthy, high-level design. "A wise old owl of a book, one to curl up with in an inglenook on a rainy day.... Alexander may be the closest thing home design has to a Zen master."--The New York Times

You can use this book to design a house for yourself with your family; you can use it to work with your neighbors to improve your town and neighborhood; you can use it to design an office, or a workshop, or a public building. And you can use it to guide you in the actual process of construction.

After a ten-year silence, Christopher Alexander and his colleagues at the Center for Environmental Structure are now publishing a major statement in the form of three books which will, in their words, "lay the basis for an entirely new approach to architecture, building and planning, which will we hope replace existing ideas and practices entirely." The three books are The Timeless Way of Building, The Oregon Experiment, and this book, A Pattern Language.

At the core of these books is the idea that people should design for themselves their own houses, streets, and communities. This idea may be radical (it implies a radical transformation of the architectural profession) but it comes simply from the observation that most of the wonderful places of the world were not made by architects but by the people.

At the core of the books, too, is the point that in designing their environments people always rely on certain "languages," which, like the languages we speak, allow them to articulate and communicate an infinite variety of designs within a forma system which gives them coherence. This book provides a language of this kind. It will enable a person to make a design for almost any kind of building, or any part of the built environment.

"Patterns," the units of this language, are answers to design problems (How high should a window sill be? How many stories should a building have? How much space in a neighborhood should be devoted to grass and trees?). More than 250 of the patterns in this pattern language are given: each consists of a problem statement, a discussion of the problem with an illustration, and a solution. As the authors say in their introduction, many of the patterns are archetypal, so deeply rooted in the nature of things that it seemly likely that they will be a part of human nature, and human action, as much in five hundred years as they are today.

Change your worldview, and change the world, with this book. In college, I was so intrigued by this way of examining the spaces we live in, from our literal kitchen sink to the way our cities and countries are arranged--and was delighted when my 17-year-old discovered it independently through TED talk etc. recommendations. He treats it like his bible, reading it passage by passage and noticing how the way chairs, streets, etc. are arranged affects how we live. He's considering city planning or something as a career now, but it's also just a really readable, interesting book that ideally, tons of people should read so that we can live in a more beautiful and livable world!Worth its weight in molybdenum for those who value it Classic book from the 1970's written by a Berkley, CA and Oregon of University Professor. It is for serious architects or engineers who wish to be challenged by values in the way things are built. This man is the Archimedes of city planning. It is a dense read but will fire you up with dreams of a better way to plan humans enjoying each other, living together in balance with resources. It is over 1,000 valuable pages of hope for city planners or individual architects. It is a priceless AND timeless book, worthy to be preserved for 1,000's of years like Archimedes gifts to us. Also, see his more reader friendly "The Timeless Way of Building" only 550 pages long.Great Reference Book Bought this as a gift for a friend. Since its original publication, I have purchased numerous copies as gifts and to have in multiple locations for reference. Written in a series of short 1-2 page chapters, the book goes through an array of critical "place making" criteria based on human behavior. As an architect/urban designer, it is one of my top 5 reference books when thinking through an new project. Although not a book intended to be read cover to cover, some of his other publications are written in a way to show how these "place making" elements can be combined to create a livable human habitat.
